The Difference Between Smart Antenna and GSM Antenna

2024-08-03

1. Structural Composition Difference
A smart antenna consists of two or more antenna arrays, while a GSM system antenna consists of only one antenna array. As shown in Figure 1 and 2:

2. Functional differences

The smart antenna can form a predetermined beam by changing the excitation of each antenna array and using the interference principle of the wave.

The GSM antenna has only one array, and its beam is determined at the time of design and cannot be changed after the factory.

3. Classification of smart antennas

3.1 Omnidirectional antenna

A smart antenna array that can beam scan in any azimuth at 360°.

3.2 Directional single-polarization antenna

In particular, it refers to an antenna array which uses a single polarized radiation unit to form a directional array and can carry out beam scanning in a specific direction.

3.3 Directional dual-polarized antenna

In particular, it refers to an antenna array that adopts a dual-polarized radiation unit to form a directional array and can carry out beam scanning in a specific direction.
